El Tiempo, Colombia’s leading newspaper, on Sunday changed its website and the next morning launched its new newspaper.
The newspaper, the biggest in the country both in print and online, changed its primary color from red to blue and drastically changed its categorization of content on the website.
Eltiempo.com‘s main navigation menu changed from the traditional news sections to “debes saber” (you should know) which contains the news, “debes hacer” (you should do) which contains culture and “debes leer” (you should read) which contains analysis and opinion.
The newspaper was founded in 1911 and from 1913 until 2007 owned by the family of President Juan Manuel Santos. The family sold the majority of shares to Spanish Grupo Planeta, but still has strong ties to the newsroom and board of directors.
