Colombia is the world’s #1 producer of cocaine, according to both the U.S. State Department and the United Nations’ office on Drugs and Crime.

In 2012, Colombia had 48,000 hectares of coca fields while 34,170 hectares were destroyed by authorities, said the U.N. while the State Department estimated the country’s 2010 production at 100,000 hectares.

The coca produced in 2011 had a value of $420 million.
